Major order for Vossloh Kiepe from Vienna
Wiener Linien, the Vienna Transport Authority, has commissioned the Bombardier Transportation and Vossloh Kiepe consortium to supply 38 light rail vehicles. The total contract is valued at €91 million, with Vossloh Kiepe's share worth some €21 million. The vehicles will be delivered from late 2006 until mid-2008 under a contract which includes an option for an additional 42 vehicles. The vehicles will be built in Vienna and equipped with state-of-the-art electrical traction equipment for which Vossloh Kiepe is responsible. The new vehicles, whose passenger compartments will be air-conditioned, can operate in convoy with the LRVs supplied to date. In the 1990s, Vossloh Kiepe together with Bombardier provided Wiener Linien with 78 vehicles all of which have since been in use on the historical U6 light rail line.
In addition, Vossloh Kiepe has secured from Wiener Linien an order worth about €10 million to supply the heating, air-conditioning and ventilation systems for 150 ULF (ultra low-floor) trams. The contract includes an option for a further 150 such systems.
With these orders Vossloh Kiepe is again underlining its strong market position as an independent supplier of electrical and air-conditioning equipment for mass transit rolling stock.
