Vossloh Electrical Systems delivers the 188th trolleybus to Vancouver

A good four months ahead of the contractually agreed date, the 188th trolleybus, model E40LFR, arrived in Vancouver on September 20, 2007. This means that the fleet of 40-foot single trolleybuses is now complete. In fact, these attractive vehicles have largely taken over local transit services in and around Vancouver. The units, built by Vossloh Electrical Systems and New Flyer, Winnipeg, are a distinctive feature of the cityscape and most popular with passengers thanks to their easy accessibility and the bicycle carriers mounted at the front of the vehicles.

The energy propelling these trolleybuses is drawn from eco-friendly hydropower and consequently, no emissions are caused and the vehicles largely contribute toward reduced CO2 while also impacting favorably on their environment thanks to quiet operation.

The Vancouver transit authority will also receive another 40 articulated trolleybuses, model E60LFR, with a propulsion system largely identical to the single vehicles. Another vehicle from this series is also operating on passenger services in Edmonton. For the Philadelphia trolleybus lines, 39 largely identical single units are in production and the first prototype has been undergoing tests in this city since June 2007.
