PROTOS® going into passenger service with electrical equipment from Vossloh

On September 24, 2007, the first two regional MU sets, model PROTOS®, went into regular service in the Netherlands and another three are due to follow shortly.

Vossloh Electrical Systems has thus succeeded inside a very short period of time, in adding electrical equipment for regional MU sets to its product range and, together with Fahrzeugtechnik Dessau, developing a platform for mainline services. Within only two years, the entire electrical equipment project has been planned, implemented and homologated for passenger traffic.

On the PROTOS®, Vossloh Electrical Systems is supplying the traction equipment, the current collector, the onboard power system, the heating, ventilation and A/C systems, the train control system, the communication and operating equipment on the engineer’s stand as well as the warning and protection system. Vossloh is responsible for project management, engineering, electrical installation and commissioning of this equipment. The vehicles themselves were built at Fahrzeugtechnik Dessau and are run by Connexxion. They operate on daily services on the Dutch Valleilijn, linking the towns of Amersfoort and Ede-Wageningen in the province of Gelderland.
