Dortmund orders 47 low-floor trams from Vossloh Kiepe and Bombardier Transportation

The Dortmund municipal utility DSW21 has awarded Vossloh Kiepe, Düsseldorf, and Bombardier Transportation contracts for the supply of 47 low-floor trams along with the option for another 5.
The orders were placed as separate contracts: for the electrical equipment and for the vehicles.

In the long run, the new trams, to be built at Bombardier’s Bautzen plant in Germany, will replace Dortmund’s N series.
The vehicles are 70 percent low-floor models of the Flexity Classic family as already operating in Frankfurt and Bremen. Shipment will commence in October 2007 and the final units will be delivered by December 2010.

Vossloh Kiepe is systems contractor for the development, supply and assembly of the complete electrical equipment including the CAN bus control level, the traction train for onboard power supply, the passenger information components, the protection and control parts, and the air conditioning and temperature control systems for driver and passengers.
