Metro do Porto has awarded a contract to Vossloh Kiepe and Bombardier Transportation to deliver and service its new light rail transit system. In all, the contract is valued at around €115 million.

The vehicles of the type Flexity Swift will operate on the 70-km network in Porto, including the line officially opened in May between the existing network and the airport.

The vehicles are due to be delivered between 2008 and 2009 after which the Bombardier/Vossloh Kiepe consortium will handle fleet maintenance for a period of 5 years.

Within the contract, Vossloh Kiepe is responsible for the development, delivery, commissioning and maintenance of the vehicles’ electrical equipment. The scope of supply covers all the electrical systems along with the onboard information and control systems, video monitoring and driver cab equipment.
