Vossloh to supply 18 diesel locomotives to VPS
Kiel-based Vossloh Locomotives has been awarded by Verkehrsbetriebe Peine-Salzgitter (VPS), Germany, a contract worth around €25 million and comprising 18 G 6 diesel locomotives, with shipments to commence at the start of 2011.The G 6 is currently Vossloh’s most modern shunting locomotive and the first of a new modular family. This compact triple-axle industrial unit is especially suited for cargo transshipment and develops superior tractive force and power compared with other locomotives in this segment.
As the works railways of Salzgitter AG, the customer, VPS, is one of Germany’s most important rail freight operators providing haulage services at the Salzgitter AG plants in Salzgitter, Peine and Ilsenburg besides supraregionally within Germany. The present fleet includes 43 triple-axle shunters to be gradually replaced by modern diesel locomotives.
