Meet the switch builder Nikola Juric: “I've always found railways exciting”

Nikola Juric, 24, works as a switch builder at Vossloh Switch System Scandinavia since some years back. His also has a keen interest in engines that has benefited him not only at work, but also in his role at the workshop in Örebro. In his home in Hallsberg, he has a 1950s moped.

Before Nikola started building switches, he worked in another part of the workshop. After a year, he was ready to try something new. He then got the chance to try his hand at building railway switches, and shortly after, he began further training through the Swedish Transport Administration's switch construction course. He has now been building railway switches for more than three years now.

“It’s fun and challenging”

“What initially attracted me to switch assembly was that it is a varied job. I needed a challenge and to do something new,” he says.

As a switch builder, he builds and assembles different types of switches depending on the orders.

“It's fun and challenging because building a switch is often a large, advanced project. There are so many different models, and there are always new skills to master. The variety means that you never really finish learning, which is something I like about the job!”, says Juric.

“I have an important job.”

It was an easy decision for Nikola to work for Vossloh because he has always been interested in railways.

“It feels good to contribute to Swedish railways! I have an important job, and I feel that I am making a difference. I help ensure that trains can run faster and more safely," says Nikola Juric, continuing:

"What's more, I enjoy working at Vossloh. I have great colleagues, and we always support each other. It's a nice workplace with people who care about each other."

When Nikola isn't building switches, he enjoys tinkering with engines and renovating his house in Hallsberg.

"I love working with my hands! I have a moped from the 1950s that I bought to tinker with and restore. When I'm not tinkering, I'm renovating my house. There's always something to fix,” says Nikola Juric.
