Keep urban networks moving

Vossloh InterTramSwitch is the modular turnout solution that makes tramway maintenance simpler, smarter and more sustainable.

Vossloh InterTramSwitch Designed around the parts that wear.

Vossloh InterTramSwitch is a turnout for tramway and light-metro networks with interchangeable functional and wear components.

Wear zones are accessible from above and can be replaced with simple tools. Instead of extensive welding, grinding or premature renewal of the complete turnout, maintenance teams can exchange the affected component and return the asset to service efficiently.

Answering network challengesLess disruption. More control.

Urban operators need reliable assets, short intervention windows and a service that works for passengers and city residents alike.

01 / Maintenance

Make interventions simpler

Replace wear components rather than carry out complex, on-track restoration work. No major excavation around the turnout is required for the exchangeable parts.

02 / Availability

Plan with confidence

More predictable interventions help teams use short possession windows more effectively and support network availability.

03 / Urban impact

Reduce disturbance

Quicker, less intensive maintenance can limit noise, works duration and the impact of closures on passengers and neighbours.

Jonathan Ceulemans, LETEC Charleroi “We no longer need to carry out heavy repairs or prematurely replace the existing turnout.”

Asset Management & Lifecycle CostTurnout maintenance that supports the full asset lifecycle.

  • Targeted renewal: exchange the wear part, rather than the entire turnout.
  • Optimised spares: hold selected components in the workshop for responsive maintenance.
  • Material flexibility: choose a material appropriate to operating conditions and future needs.
  • Quality by design: install factory-produced replacement parts in critical wheel-contact areas.

A Measurable Step ForwardPerformance built into the concept.

The expected benefits combine operational efficiency with lower resource use across the asset lifecycle.

≥ 2×

faster on-site maintenance target compared with conventional extensive repairs

50%

lower switch-heating electricity consumption target through optimised heater positioning

80%

of the turnout uses standard steel rather than high-strength steel, reducing material impact

In operationA world first in Charleroi.

In April 2026, the first Vossloh InterTramSwitch was commissioned with LETEC at Piges station in Charleroi, Belgium. The strategic location is used by three of the city’s four tram lines, making it a demanding real-world environment.

Vossloh and LETEC are monitoring vibration, wear development, traffic frequency and heating temperatures. 3D measurement will document the turnout’s performance over time and support future maintenance decisions.
