Engineered Polymer Sleeper (EPS) made of amalentic®

Turning the Future

PRECISE. FLEXIBLE. FUTURE-ORIENTED.

Turnout bearer are subject to particularly demanding requirements. They must withstand high mechanical and static loads while reliably accommodating complex geometries, varying environmental conditions, and strict track-gauge tolerances. EPS provides a tailor-made solution, combining precision, flexibility, and sustainability in a single integrated system.

In Montreal, a complete turnout system was implemented using EPS, accommodating both conventional rail vehicles and rubber-tired transit vehicles. Thanks to modular manufacturing, precise factory acceptance testing, and installation-friendly assembly on site, this complex infrastructure project was delivered efficiently while maintaining the highest levels of operational reliability.
Through close collaboration between Vossloh’s business units, the first turnout was fully pre-assembled and accepted at the manufacturing facility, while subsequent acceptance procedures were conducted via remote live-stream inspections. The result was a truly international project, with manufacturing, installation, and service delivered seamlessly from a single source.

Flexible solutions for complex turnout interfaces

Our EPS provide maximum flexibility for turnout manufacturing and installation. Their material properties and precise customization capabilities enable even highly complex interfaces to be implemented efficiently.

Precise Integration: Machined recesses allow the direct integration of ALD technologies (Actuation, Locking & Detection) into the sleeper.

Efficient Processing: Helpful markings indicating the reinforcement position facilitate drilling for core holes and various fastening solutions.

Healthy working environment: Mechanical processing such as drilling, sawing, milling, or grinding does not produce any dust that is hazardous to health (no glass fibers contained).

Subsequent adjustment: Drilled holes can be repaired in order to correct misdrilled holes or to adjust the track gauge at a later time.

Technical performance that delivers

The operational suitability test for EBA certification at the Technical University of Munich was successfully conducted and passed – proving the highest standards of safety and quality.
