Vossloh uses the steel’s thermal capacity in a welded monobloc sandwich design to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of tramway networks.
The Tram Switch Heating system can be connected to existing urban heat networks or can utilize local heat exchangers, including aerothermal, geothermal, or hydrothermal sources.
The heating is achieved by circulating fluid through machined grooves in the monobloc, providing effective and efficient warmth to the tram switches.
Long-Term Savings: Over a 20-year lifespan, conventional electrical heating systems can account for 8 to 25% of the lifecycle costs on turnouts made of grooved or flat-bottom rails. In contrast, the Tram heating system's electricity costs are remarkably low, averaging only 15 to 20 euros per year—representing just 3 to 4% of the energy costs associated with traditional systems.
